Quilting workshop by Krista Moser

Sew, Sew, Sew.  Quilt, Quilt, Quilt.

Calling all quilters!

The Oahu Modern Quilt Guild and the Hawaii Quilt Guild are presenting 3 different and fun quilting workshops taught by nationally known quilter and blogger, Krista Moser on June 21,22,23, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Each workshop will highlight a different quilt design.

Krista Moser is the creative force and inspiration behind The Quilted Life. A quilting and fiber arts enthusiast, she started sewing at 8 years old sneaking off to the sewing machine during her Mom’s nap time. Since she couldn’t read patterns, everything was made from her imagination propelling the creativity and the innovative design she is known for today. She began her professional sewing and machine quilting career at the spunky age of fourteen adding the texture and dimension machine quilting brings to every project.

She has been teaching sewing and quilting lessons for more than twenty years. Her work has been featured in quilting magazines, published by Martingale Press, and hung in prominent quilt shops around the country.

Champagne & Pearls

Versatile and Foolproof!
Looking for a great quilt to learn new skills? Something that looks complicated but is so easy you won’t believe it! This quilt has the beauty of tradition, but could be changed up with holiday colors or maybe even patriotic! It’s a star with a hidden gem in the background detail. You will learn some fool proof piecing techniques you’ll be sure to use on any future quilting project.

Woven Jewel box Workshop
Saturday, June 22, 2019 | 9am – 4pm | Aiea United Methodist Church
Woven Jewel box is a fresh modern approach to asymmetrical design. This quilt with its simple piecing makes a dramatic impact with color placement and 60-degree angles. No tedious piecing here! This quilt is a real crowd pleaser.

Semaphore Stripes Workshop
Sunday, June 23, 2019 | 9am – 4pm | Aiea Public Library
Are you looking for a great way to use stripes? The Semaphore Stripes quilt is the perfect way to use striped fabric to make a secondary design without all the complicated piecing stripes typically require, and it’s jelly roll friendly! This quilt combines strip-piecing with a few well-placed Y seams to get the most dramatic effect.

General Meetings and patterns

We had a wonderful general meeting on April 17, 2019.  Lots of good quilts shown and oh my!, the patterns shown.  Members got to see some quilts made with patterns for 2 1/2″ squares that were taught at our last sew-in.

At our last meeting we got a pattern for a star block that many members participated in.  They took the pattern, sewed a few blocks and turned in a finished block or two for a lucky participant to “win” to use to make a quilt.  Look at the results!

We also got a pattern for an intriguing “twist of Lemon” quilt that should be striking when done.  All members can participate in this block of the month, and turn in a block or two.  All participants will be eligible to win all the blocks turned in.

Our general meetings are usually on the third Wednesday of each month, and complimentary to newcomers for their first visit. Check our events page for the next meeting. If you’d like to join, click here for the application form.
