February general meeting

Our February general meeting was on 2/18, and the exciting news was that we received our membership cards and adorable pins from the national MQG!

Bonnie Bucket Bag sewalong

Trinia‘s first post for the Bonnie Bucket Bag sewalong went up today! We’ll update this post as she moves through the steps. Take as much time as you need and have fun sewing along!

January general meeting

January’s general meeting was a great kickoff for the new year! We discussed our:

Everyone’s show and tell items were amazing!

Val and Norine made a beautiful Swoon for their friend.

Val also made a fun Road to Hana quilt.

Trinia made her husband his own Ten Squared Too quilt!

Nancy and her family made this absolutely beautiful Starshine quilt for their mom. Her husband quilted it!

Amber showed us her adorable improv baby quilt top…

… and also a totally covetable Cotton & Steel patchwork quilt top.

Alli made a scrappy Hazel Hedgehog quilt.

Sue made an all-solids Follow the Trail quilt.

Jackie made a beautiful Ethel and this “Drinks on the” Patio quilt out of novelty whiskey fabric for her dad. 😀

Norine had so many quilts to share! A block challenge quilt…

… a colorful mystery quilt…

… and a nifty exploding pineapples quilt.

Everyone made amazing things! 🙂

We just had our first (properly) epically long sew in this past weekend — it ran from 10am til 8pm! It was wonderful seeing everyone who came, and people got a lot done. There was a ton of food, so we got to munch on yummy things all day long. Norine’s Ritz+Rolos were awesome!

I spaced out and forgot to get pictures of Val’s and Norine’s projects, but I can steal a pic off Val’s instagram feed… during the sew-in, we found out from Mai that our local Fabric Mart was carrying bolts of Cotton & Steel! Val and Norine left right away to build their stashes. 😀

Emily stopped by for a few hours to work on a beautifully precise star quilt for herself.

Jackie the super sewer finished an entire quilt top for her dad and two dresses for her daughters!

Trinia worked on adorable little boy quilts — many people commented on the cute lobster print!

Mai continued with her seriously gorgeous Aviatrix Medallion quilt. She’s going to have to keep an eye on it when she brings it in for show and tell, cause it could grow legs and walk away (back to my house)…

Holiday Meetup and Mini Swap

Our holiday meetup and mini swap at Ricado’s last night was so much fun! We played a bunch of games, and Trinia donated fat eighth bundles in our guild colors for prizes. We also exchanged our two-color challenge minis, and everyone who participated in the swap went home with something beautiful.

Trinia was a real taskmaster on this challenge; these were the requirements for our minis:

Between 12″ and 18″ square
Minimum of 25 pieces
Quilting cotton
Natural fiber batting
Backing with label (name, date, location, title [if applicable])
Colors: Kona snow + 2 colors (can have different values of each color)

Here are the minis (usually photographed with the recipients)!

Val made an adorable red and blue Norway.

Megan made a fabulous black and white feathers mini.

Sarah made a fantastic fussy-cut pineapple.

Jackie made a beautifully quilted sunset mini.

Ronnie made a super modern improv mini. The title is perfect: Which Way Is Up?

Mai made a terribly cute aqua and coral flying geese mini.

Trinia made a craaaaaazy intricate zig zaggy mini with over 400 tiny pieces! It was inspired by Gently Down The Stream.

Alli made a Bartow mini with matchstick quilting.

Leah made a lovely Christmassey Swoon.

Norine made a wonderful blue and grey mini.

Finally, Nancy missed the swap signup but brought a mini top to show — she made a gorgeous carpenter’s star that we all loved.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated the end of the year with us! 2015 is going to be even more fun! 🙂

Kona Cotton Trunk Show

The Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton Trunk Show is at Kaimuki Dry Goods from now til about December 16th, and then it’s going to move to Sew Special on Maui. I got a chance to visit the other day, and the quilts are gorgeous!

North South, designed by Nichole Ramirez (who apparently works for Robert Kaufman in the marketing department!)

The quilting is beautiful! (The quilting on many of them were amazing, but this is the only one I managed to get a good close-up picture of. :} )

Star Challenge Quilt donated!

NICU quilts donated

In June 2013, OMQG members sewed many baby quilts and donated them to the Tripler NICU!
