Runway project: Quilting in fashion design

Boy, did we get an outstanding “runway” fashion show put on by one of our very own members, Suzette K. She showcased a few of her outstanding garments that she made for her degree program at Honolulu Community College’s  Fashion Technology program. What does this have to do with quilting?  Look at the armbands and collars of the garments – they’re all done in Sashiko stitching. She said that she patterned her garments to honor her Japanese grandmother. Aren’t they exquisite? Do you know that she took up fashion design after she retired and decided she needed to do something?

Even the handbag is exquisitely done with fancy pleats. Who has that kind of energy and determination to do that?  I would just rather sit around the pool and enjoy a pina colada! If you want to talk to her about her work, just come on in to one of our meetings. If you want to join, please email us a request. The first meeting is complimentary. Email us communications@oahumodernquiltguild.com. Our next meeting is November 16, 2022.
